James Murphy has postponed any work related to LCD Soundsystem until further notice. He and the band's percussionist, Pat Mahoney have been spending much of their free time since mid-2008 playing on tour as DJs, in dates in which their aim is to highlight their fondness for vintage disco music. In these celebrations, christened ‘Special Disco Version,’ James and Pat immerse the crowd in an experience of lushness and luxuriant musical arrangements, as if the entire club was travelling back in time to 1978.
The major difference between the set by James Murphy and Pat Mahoney at Sónar compared to other dates is that on Friday 19 June the two of them will be playing together. They don't do this very often –in fact it is very difficult to see this combination. It usually happens in Europe at London's Fabric club, where they recorded a fantastic session of disco classics in 2007– so their set in Barcelona can be thought of as a little piece of luxury on the decks. Murphy will bring his astonishing collection of vintage vinyl, and Mahoney will add the technique of which he is a master: cutting up music on the fly without missing an instant of the groove.
James Murphy and Pat Mahoney will perform at Sonar by Night on Friday 19th at 12:30pm at SonarClub.
