Young talents like Lukid, Jamie Woon, Muhsinah, Onra and El Santo share a stage with established artists such as Mulatu Astatké & The Heliocentrics and Bomb Squad.
Red Bull Music Academy is one of the main trackers of musical talent in the entire world, and one of the cultural institutions that comes closest to the Sonar philosophy. For over 10 years, the Red Bull Music Academy has been selecting young producers and artists from the entire planet to stimulate their creativity and encourage their learning through its travelling musical academy, which touched down in Barcelona last year.
Sonar's collaboration with the Red Bull Music Academy, which began in 2005, takes a giant step forward this year, as the Academy will be responsible for curating the SonarDôme Stage, at Sonar by Day.
To that end, the Academy has selected more than twenty artists, practically all of whom have attended the Academy at one time or another. Some are in the early stages of their promising careers; others already have a high international profile. As a result, names that are already beginning to stand out will be present, such as Britain's; Jamie Woon, GoldieLocks, Lukid and Mr Hudson; Ireland’s Mike Slott, Rory D and Mano Le Tough; the two French beatmakers Onra and Débruit; other young European producers such as Cécile (Italy), Kornél Kovács (Sweden), Taras 3000 (Russia) and Dorian Concept (Austria); and from Spain Miaau, Guillamino, Midee and d´J`w.
Also included in the line-up are Muhsinah and XXXChange from the US, the Barcelona-based Venezuelan Cardopusher, Mexico's Natalia Lafourcade, Colombia's El Santo, South Africa's Culoe de Song and Singapore’s young talent SonicBrat.
As well as these worldwide emerging talents, the Academy includes two shows by fully established artists in its line-up. First, the Ethiopian musician Mulatu Astatké (who is renowned for the soundtrack to the Jim Jarmusch film “Broken Flowers”), who will be accompanied by the British band The Heliocentrics. And second, Hank Shocklee half of Bomb Squad (producers of Public Enemy and Ice Cube, among others), who will give us one of his acclaimed and powerful hip-hop and dubstep sessions.
