From their Sheffield studio, Mat Steel and Mark Fell have spent more than a decade putting into practice an electronic minimalism that is hermetic and at the same time accessible, strange as that may sound. The sixteen sound-origami pieces in their recently released fourth album "Atavism" further expand their personal approach to digital sound: simple rhythmic patterns that become complex microstructures and extremely pure sounds to structure a brilliant musical discourse, with a DNA chain cobbled together from bits of classic techno, a rationalist aesthetic and generative algorithms.
